In order to build our house, a substantial amount of road work is required to bring the existing private road up to code (with an additional residence, aka us, the needs change) as well as construct our own driveway, which is about a quarter of a mile from the existing private drive.

Keith and my dad have spent an exhausting number of hot hours in the bulldozer, widening the private drive, cutting a new driveway for us and clearing our building pad. They’ve installed culverts and built a retaining wall at the slope of the main road and private road intersection. It has been a massive undertaking, both in man hours and money.

We’ve hired a local sand and gravel pit to deliver pit run and road mix to fix up the existing private drive. They’ll bring their grater and roller, which will make it nice and smooth (for a dirt road). We haven’t yet decided if we will be doing our driveway ourselves or hiring them to do the same to it.
