Build update: six weeks of progress and a dusting of snow

I’ve been taking progress pictures from the same spot(ish) since we broke ground — today I flipped through them and was surprised at the amount of progress we’ve made in six weeks. We went from a leveled out pad to a pit to foundation and flooring fairly quickly. After a summer of what felt like nothing — it’s nice to see some tangible progress.

On one hand, it has felt like a very long six weeks. When we stop to think about the nonstop go-go-go (between working, raising a toddler and working on the house and road), it makes sense that it feels like such a long time. On the other hand, it’s also gone by extremely fast.

I find it helpful to look back and measure our progress. While we’re really hoping to be dried in in the next six weeks, a fresh smattering of snow today has dampened our hope just a little. All we can focus on is what we can control; the weather isn’t part of that. The forecast has lots of rain and snow, but the temperatures vary from freezing to mid-40s, so hopefully nothing sticks for a while.

Luke was pretty excited about the snow.

Our subcontractor told us last week that (weather allowing) he feels we can have our exterior walls completed by 11/9. I imagine with the snowfall we can add another week to that. Our trusses are still due to be delivered next week. Both Keith and my dad get back next week.

Ready for round three.
